The GNB Writers Block was formed in 2010 by NB poets Patricia Gomes and Dawn Lopes. With over 100 active members, the Block hosts readings, contests, workshops, and classes for both adults and students. We have been New Bedford's host for 100 Thousand Poets for Change (a live annual global event held the last weekend in the month of September) since 2011. In March of 2014, the GNB Writers Block actively participated in the Massachusetts "Big Read" with readings and performances using the works of Edgar Allan Poe, the Big Read's chosen author. We plan to do it again in 2016! Founder Patricia Gomes is currently the Poet Laureate of New Bedford, MA.
